Steering rack clarification Empty Steering rack clarification

We're working our way through the manual and looking installing our new mustang ii manual rack and pinion steering rack this weekend, we opt'd to not put the doner car (1989 mustang lx) power steering rack into the car as the car should be light enough on the front end. We measured our rack mounting locations on the frame and we're good on that front. Here's the question, for those of you who still own the original build manuals.

On page 3 - 8 it talks about "10 steering rack modification (saxon only). And that the steering rack will need to be shortened by 3.5". I can assume this is due to the differences between the Saxon version and my MX model which has/will have the wider stance and wheel arches etc. Would that be a correct assumption?, the manual while good to have, has some room for questioning and interpretation, thanks in advance.
