Faux wire wheels
Gang
Im having trouble with my faux wire wheels....The center piece weights 2.5 pounds and unless its perfectly centered it throws out the wheel balance terribly....anyone else having this problem and found a solution..? It docent center itself.
Would like to get rid of them but can't find any decent 4 lug wheels

First, verify what bolt circle diameter you currently have then "Google" wheels with that bolt pattern. If you have the room to add spacers then adapting to 4-100 pattern will open you up to using early Mustang 4 lug rims (see CJ Pony Parts for examples). Summit Racing's website has pretty good selectiion of filters to search for specific bolt pattern rims.

Re: Faux wire wheels
I have the faux wheel attachments as well. I suspected a balance problem but on some roads is smooth as glass. I am going to remove the wire caps and if there is a significant improvement, I will buy new wheels.
I’m thinking American Racing Outlaws. Has anyone seen these on an MX? I can’t believe I never thought about the faux wires being the culprit.

Re: Faux wire wheels
If you like the looks of the Outlaws, then your personal taste is what matters. If you want wheels that will enhance the performance of a sports car, those will not be the a good choice. That style wheel is really for drag cars where the brakes aren't subject to heat build-up from repeated use. One reason Minilites became so popular is because the spokes allow plenty of open space for ventilation and their shape actually helps move air past the brake materials.
If all you do is drive leisurely, those solid wheels will work just fine, but if you do much "spirited driving" you'll want to pick something that will provide some brake cooling.

I understand what you are saying. The faux wire wheels are already a solid wheel with that spoked overlay so it’s really no different from what I have now.

Re: Faux wire wheels
Ok. Tech update for those with what I assume are Classic Roadster factory spoke faux centers on solid chrome wheels.
So it is true that there is not a very technical mechanism to insure these things are centered on the wheel. I removed them today and polished all the parts and wheels. Looks great. Back to the point. Where the most change can happen is the center caps that cover the lug nuts. I made a fishing line “protractor” thing to judge if those hubs were centered. All were pretty close except one. It wasn’t even close. However, when I removed it and rotated it 180 it was as perfect as the rest. Additionally when attaching the spokes don’t just tighten it down. Get the bolt almost all the way in but so the spoke unit can be rotated. Spin it to get the most even gap all around the edge of the rim.
I was able to get things way more centered than they were.
It’s raining (of course) so the test drive will have to wait but it has to be a big improvement!!

Re: Faux wire wheels
Alrightty, the test drive is done. Major difference. It’s like on rails compared to before. So for anyone still running these, make sure that little hub is centered. And spin the spokes to achieve the best gap around its perimeter. Better result than I was hoping for

About these faux wire wheels. Mine are 15’s. I assume from the factory. Does anyone know if all four are the same and what the width / backspace is on these?
