Speedometer cable
I have the 1986 T5 transmission. Anyone know what speedometer cable will give me the length I need?

Re: Speedometer cable
When I installed my WC T5 the speedo cable had failed. I used a universal kit from Lokar.com
Comes way long and can be trimmed to whatever size you need. Do not remember it being a difficult task.

Re: Speedometer cable
Speedo and tach cables from the '40s thru the '80s for passenger cars, are pretty much universal. Look for a speedo shop near you.
Don't know how close you are, but this is the kind of shop to look for.

Also, a lot of full service parts stores may be able to make one. I sold truck parts for years, and we made them in the parts dept. With a sample, it takes about 10 minutes. Without a sample, you need to know the length. Threaded ends to trans and speedo head for the casings are an industry standard. Even a lot of British cars use the same thing. Some of the drives on the cable ends are different, but there's only a few of those. Cruise some web sites to see. You'll have to determine the routing of the cable (keeping in mind it can't make sharp bends) and supply that info. It's not complicated, just a little to learn the first time.
