I see lots of photos of cars with chrome on the windshield side uprights. Mine are just painted to match the car. Where can I find a set and are they simple chrome slip covers.

They are, unfortunately, very hard to find.  You just about have to find someone with an unfinished kit that they are parting out.  They were an option when these cars were new.  And yes, they are a cover, just like the painted parts you currently have.

I have seen some pictures of cars that have the ends of the windshield frame polished with no covers.  It's not a bad look.

There is a source for some polished aluminum covers for our cars.  That is Sebring International in the UK.  They still (or did) make a version of our car with an updated chassis.  I actually had a set of the aluminum covers from SI and sold them to our very own David V.  The moderator of this forum.

They are truly fantastic pieces of craftsmanship and were obviously very difficult and time consuming to make (entirely by hand).  As a result, they are very expensive.  I think they cost me well over $300 plus international shipping.

Can confirm, just received Hotrod's Sebring International aluminum caps, they are very pretty Surprised

An alternative I frequently recommend is to try 3M chrome vinyl wrap.

Windshield chrome side trim Empty Windshield End Caps

Post by DrJ Thu Jul 04, 2019 8:27 am

I too purchased a set of polished aluminum end caps from Sebring International, their pieces of jewelry (expensive jewelry). My Healey did not have them when I bought it and I wanted to avoid the original plastic units. Like Hotrod, I paid something like 400 bucks for the pieces including the international shipping. Never put them on the car so if you are interested PM me and we can work something out. Also have a real Healey chrome metal surround for the grill that's currently wall art in my garage/shop.

Dr J, can you confirm whether or not that original Heeley Grill surround will fit the Sebring front end ? Is it the one piece around for the two piece around ?

Windshield chrome side trim Empty Grill surround

Others have actually installed theirs and could more definitively speak to fitment but from what I have read by those members, it leaves a small gap at the bottom that you might have to kneel down to appreciate. The unit I have is a two piece, I think. I'll take a look at it tomorrow and post a response if it is not.

I have never posted a picture to the forum, and frankly do no know how. If you want to email me at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I can send you pictures through that. Born before 1960, slow to adopt the digital revolution.

Windshield chrome side trim Empty Metal Grill Surround

I took a look at the surround, it is two piece but has a fair amount of pitting on it. I would think that you would want to re-chrome it. Email me if you want pictures.

Thanks DrJ, I know the two piece doesn't quite fit. I was looking for the one piece affair from a BJ7. That I think may fit better. I know the vertical bars definitely work.
That being said, I am experimenting with different ways to replicate the Sebring surround. If this works I can make new versions available to other Sebring owners.
