Brake Servo Retrofit
AH with 377 short block chevvy and GM700R4 automatic transmission. Am considering having a power brake servo installed on braking system, the engine tends to overpower the car particularly on start up with automatic choke. Anyone know of a good garage in New York City area, NJ or CT?

Re: Brake Servo Retrofit
Before you go very far on this, you need to check the vacuum that your engine is pulling. You need at least 15-16 inches to reliably power a brake servo.
If your cam is fairly stock and the engine is in good tune, you should have decent vacuum. If you have a "lumpy" cam, you probably don't have enough.
Find a vacuum test gauge and hook it up to a constant manifold vacuum port.

Re: Brake Servo Retrofit
Is your ride set up with 9" Pinto Front disc brakes and Maverick rear drum brakes { like a FoMoCo 8" rear axle ass'y.}??
That's what I had to improve on ... I think I've still got part numbers around here. Please let me know.

Re: Brake Servo Retrofit
Upgraded brakes to Wilwood Dynalite four piston discs and calipers on rear, SSBC four piston front with drilled and slotted rotors and calipers.
Have to step on brakes to stop car, figured power brakes would help.

Re: Brake Servo Retrofit
The parts[Master cylinder and dual 8" diaphragm booster] used on our MX were for drum rear brakes ... wouldn't work for you. Sorry 'bout that.

Thanks JQ
I just finished looking back through the old records for the car and apparently an electric brake vacuum booster system was installed back in 2010.....previous owner could have taken it off when upgrading the brakes.....will check...

Re: Brake Servo Retrofit
Hey guys, since this is more of a technical issue I moved the thread to the "Tech Questions" section of the forum. Good luck with sorting the problem out!
Cheers!

Thanks, Dave ... hope you have a great weekend. We're heading down-river to Amherst Island {not the MX though, it's way too cold} to see an old friend.

Re: Brake Servo Retrofit
Nice! My parents actually live quite close to there. I'm in Montreal right now, but if you go that way again this summer and let me know a few weeks in advance we could take the Sebrings for a cruise. If my engine works that is
