Hi all,
This might be a stupid question but...... I was intending to change the diff oil while it was up on the hoist last week and my mechanic friend and myself could not find a drain point anywhere........ nothing in the cast diff center, nothing in the sheet metal of the housing and we even checked the bottom bolts incase they were drain points..... we ended up just topping the oil..... but is there a secret to it or do I have to pull the diff center to drain the oil ????????
Regards from downunder Robert

You have to suck out the oil with a hand pump. Just go to a parts house it’s a common thing. Pump out the old and pump in the new

So it's through the same hole that you fill with.... ?????
And is there a a special pipe to get to go in and get to the bottom ??????
It did no look to me to be easy path from the fill hole to the low point in the diff housing.........

Yes through the same hole. You have to “convince” the tube to wind its way to the bottom. The oil I bought came with its own smaller pump. I used the smaller hose inserted in the bigger to get in there easier. Either way it’s not that fun but that’s what you have to do

One more thing. If you have the small 9” ford positraction rear end it does not like synthetic oil. I found out the hard way. I had to replace the synthetic oil three times with non synthetic to get it to stop growling in turns. No additive either just oil rated for positraction.

I was considering making a fitting with a drain screw and carefully welding it to the steel housing and drilling a hole through to create a drain point........ but we will try the tube way and see how much we can get out.......
Thank you very much for your help.......
