Oregon Car show Empty Oregon Car show

Post by McQ Thu Oct 15, 2020 7:05 pm

Greetings all.
We wanted to share with the forum our joint trip from a couple weeks ago.  A few of us on the west coast of Oregon attended a car show near Roseburg OR.  It was moved south 30 miles to the casino at Canyonville.  This year it replaced the annual Medford show (one of the largest in the state).  The location is about 150 miles s of Portland.  In attendance were James & Robin McQuiston of Bend OR, Robert Haugen of Roseburg, and Jerry and Lisa Mills of Portland.  As it happened, I met Robert last yr. after seeing his post on the forum about fiberglass molds. A quick trip for a garage/ car tour kept us in touch.  As the summer arrived,  we decided to make the trip as did Jerry and Lisa.
We converged Sat morning on Robert and Michelle’s house for a lunch and tour of the cars and garage. Robert’s came out of Seattle.  I had actually seen this car some 10 yrs. ago when it was a frame, and assortment of pieces and body parts. Robert is about mid stage assembling his kit based on an LS1 drive train.    It is cool to see the progress Robert has made in the two yrs. since he purchased the project.  Jerry’s Sebring project came with a 351W Ford drive train that he built some 20 yrs. It looks like a new car inside and out.   I have a 302 Ford in a Sebring I purchased in running condition.  Much discussion took place as to the similarities and the differences.  These range from interior, cooling systems, electrical and on and on.  One thing is for sure, no two of these cars are alike.  As the yrs. go on the maintenance becomes tricker to achieve, but there is no end to the possibilities.
We drove to the show Sunday Morning and the three of us were able to park together.  Most all of the cars were American classics or Hot rods.  Even so, our three cars commanded quite an audience much through-out the day.  Several attendees commented on having owned Original Healeys early in life, or just noted  the v8 engines in small sports cars.  One attendee actually had a kit for sale and Robert was getting the info on that.  It was sold later in the day.
This event tailed the forest fires which made national news this past month.  The fires were abated by the hard work of the fire fighters and some long  awaited rain earlier Thursday and Friday.  My wife and I drove 150 miles from Bend with the top down in a mist hoping for sun.  By 11am it was coming out. I have to say This was a somber drive, as we went through several areas that had just opened to traffic, and trees were still smoldering.  Whole slopes were decimated by the fire, and we saw several homes burned to the ground.

On the whole,  the show was blessed with great weather and good comradery.  After owning the car so long,  it was the second time seeing others gathered at the same spot.    Attached are some of the pictures of the show and of the scenery in and around western Oregon. Hope this encourages more enthusiasm and ideas.   Enjoy
James McQuiston

Enjoyed the pictures and the story. Driving the Pacific Coast highway is on my bucket list! When my car is done, that is exactly what my wife and I intend to do.

Thanks for sharing the about the event and information on your Sebring along with the others. Great pictures! I live in Renton, WA and would be interested in connecting with you if you attend next year. I built mine in 1988 while living in Boston. I have lived in Renton the last 25 years. I grew up in ND so while I was building mine I had chance to visit the factory in Fargo many times. It helped to talk with the guys building them at the factory.

Thank you James for the great write up! I had a great time seeing you and Jerry again. As well as your wife's cars! We should do that more often. So now calling all Oregon or further Sebring owners. "Graffiti Week is next July 7th - 11th in Roseburg. Love to see as many of you there. The show usually draws 600 plus cars from all over the west!
