Castles and Bagpipes Empty Castles and Bagpipes

Good evening everyone,

I am very excited to make a grand announcement: I am moving to Scotland! cheers
Not to worry though! The forum will continue to operate as is usual (isn't the internet wonderful).

I have been offered a career opportunity that I simply cannot pass up, and will most likely be returning to Canada in a few short years. Unfortunately, my Sebring will be staying here (in a very nice climate controlled storage) until I return, although I may have a chance to pull it out for a spin when I come visit family during the summer months. As such, build thread updates will slow down significantly. Luckily I still have a bit of a back-log of stuff that I still haven't posted.

Since I will frequently have business in London, and since Scotland is world-renowned for its Healey events, I may try to attend a few, or even visit a certain British kit car maker. Much potential for fun in the Healey motherland.

Wishing you all a great start to the summer driving season.

Sincerely,

David V. -AHRF admin

P.S. So far the poll indicates that we will be moving to the new classified ads format. I will leave it up for one more week before making the change definitively. So make your voices heard!

Maybe you can pick up one of the UK Sebrings while there. Shoot, maybe you can find and original Healey! Congrats on the job and opportunity.

All the best David, you will be missed. Your work on this blog (shouldn't this have been your real job?) has been the definition of excellence, your build threads always highly anticipated. No doubt the level of success that you have enjoyed will reach a higher order of magnitude in Scotland and I am sure I speak for the group when we wish you well on this and future endeavors.

Thanks guys! Very Happy
Don't worry I'll still be posting stuff on here regularly and working on the site, just not many build thread updates Razz

Don't think I'll get a UK Sebring, but I definitely want to go see some in person and compare (and snap a few photos for you guys in the process).

David, be sure to conserve your car before it goes into storage. Change the oil, pull the plugs and squirt some oil in the cylinders, drain the fuel tank, pull the battery, get the tires off the ground, and change the coolant at the least. It will go a long way to getting it back up and running with minimum hassle.

Thanks for the tips Hotrod! I'd already considered many of those things, but its good to have a reminder. The garage it will be housed in is with family (who are all great gearheads), so I'll be able to bug them if anything needs to be done. Fresh oil will be going in, fuel tank will be drained, carbs will be taken off and float bowls drained, coolant is fresh from this year (thanks to some events i'll be touching upon in the build thread) cough*heater core defect* cough. She'll just be set on some low blocks since I'll be coming for an eventual visit. Interior and exterior will receive a full clean and wax. Soft-top will be stored in a safe place. Hardtop will be placed on the car. Battery will be removed, and she'll likely get a nice new dust cover. I'm sure gonna miss her.

Best of Luck to you David. Hope you enjoy your new opportunity. Also looking forward to see if that certain English kit car maker truly has interchangeable parts, it would be really good to know where you could get a grill, trim, hood a fender or whatever... As I understand it, their molds were taken form Classic Roadsters... SO wouldn't that be cool. Maybe you can get a distributorship in North America when you return! You would be just the right guy for that!! Best- John

Thanks for the kind words John! As far as I know the cast aluminum windshield end caps are interchangeable with our plastic ones (will look into getting some while I'm there for when/if I eventually repaint the car). Their aluminum grille surround can also work BUT it's not quite the same height and therefore leaves a gap at the bottom, I can therefore assume that their front clip has a smaller grille opening. Frames look identical, so in theory the body panels should fit just fine. However, there's no way of telling if a CR front clip would fit with a SI rear clip or the doors or vice-versa, without leaving awkward panel gaps. The way things are right now with shipping and exchange rates, finding an unfinished kit on craigslist for spare body panels seems like a way better deal.

I doubt I'll ever get into the kit car biz, seems like it's on the way to extinction  Razz  I'll be happy just keeping these ones alive, and maybe organize a meet-up or friendly rally some time in the future Smile

Our middle son & his family live in Menstrie adjacent to Bridge of Allan {Sterling suburbs}. We love the area, the choice of restaurants and 'Woodwinters', a wonderful experience in downtown Bridge of Allan ! You must experience "The Dome" in Edinburgh ...
Congratulations David, you will be missed !
