2015 Carlisle Import & Kit Nationals
So the wife and I are back from the Carlisle PA show and it was kind of disappointing. The Carlisle series of automotive events run 9 or so shows each year on their 150 acre space which includes an autocross track. Each show hosts a core generic classic event subdivided into dedicated areas for British, Italian, German etc. vehicles. Each show has a dedicated special theme, in this case Kit's. There is a large parts flee market with vendors selling all sorts of common and hard to find parts, live music, seminars and an open opportunity to run the track (no roll bar requirement. I need to confirm that).
So it was all good including the weather. My disappointment refers to the Kit aspect of the show. There was an area for individuals to show off their finished projects, a indoor building for companies that sell kits and an area for vendors that support the building of kits. I was curious as to what was current/new it the way of kits and had hoped to talk with suppliers of coil overs, Lexan windshield producers, perhaps coach work etc.
What we found in the finished project was a dozen Cobras, (3) MG TD's and a couple of dozen Porsche 356's. The indoor pavilion had representatives from ERA, Superformance and Shell Valley Cobra, Beck Porsche and a couple of VW dune buggy guy's. In the kit support area were three vendors. None had anything applicable to our cars.
So that component was a bust, we spent the second day touring the battle fields of Gettysburg. I will head back once my Healey is ready and run her on the track, seems the no roll bar provision is tough to beat at tracks local to me (Watkins Glen) so that my be my only option to sort her out in a legal manner.
On a potential up note I hope to have mine off the jack stands this weekend. This would be the first time the engine has run and she has been driven since I began the drivetrain swap 18 months ago. If I did everything right then she will be off to the race shop for the critical weights I need to determine corner spring rates and shocks. I did measure the pinion angle when I reinstalled the driveshaft and it is good enough to drive but is not correct. I'll have to drop the upper two links and adjust them to rotate the differential up 3 degrees. More on that in another post.
Enjoy the long weekend!
